Running a shop on Ryde, from setup to getting paid
Everything a colmado, supermarket, pharmacy, boutique, hardware or electronics store needs: setup, catalog, stock, orders, the till, staff PINs, WhatsApp and getting paid.
Who this guide is for
For any store that sells products off a shelf: a colmado, supermarket, pharmacy, boutique, hardware store or electronics shop. Restaurants and service providers have their own guides.
A shop has five tabs: "Home" (today's sales and the Open toggle), "Sell" (the till), "Orders" (marketplace orders), "Stock" (inventory) and "Menu" (your catalog). Everything else is in the side menu — type a word in "Search menu" at the top of it to jump straight to a page (see The merchant portal, a tour).
Setting up your store
Do all of this while Ryde is still reviewing your store. Customers see nothing until you are approved; then everything you built goes live.
- Fill in your Store profileLogo, cover photo, store name, address. Drag the map pin onto your door; couriers use it to find you.
- Set your Opening hoursCustomers see you open only inside these hours, with the Open toggle on.
- Add your Products & ServicesBuild your catalog (next section). Every product needs a price.
- Save your Payout detailsThe bank account where you want your money. Once.
Your catalog
Add products by hand, or let Ryde AI build a draft. Most shops do both.
- Tap "Add product"Open "Products & Services" from the side menu, or the "Menu" tab.
- Fill in name, price and categoryAdd a description, a brand and bullet points if you want a full online-style listing.
- Add photosUp to 12; the first is what customers see in the list.
- Scan the barcodeTap "Barcode" and point the camera at the package. Scanning it at the till later rings up this product.
- Leave "In stock" onSwitch it off when you run out; the product hides from customers until you switch it back on.
To import many products at once, tap "Build menu with AI". Give it photos of your shelves or price list, a web page that lists your products, a CSV or Excel file, or rows pasted from a spreadsheet. You get a draft. Check it, then add what you want. Nothing reaches customers until you confirm.
If you already have a catalog, an import asks "Replace your menu?" first. Read it. Replacing removes the products you built by hand.
Inventory and barcodes
Stock tracking is off by default; switch it on product by product. Then every till sale and marketplace order takes one off the count. At zero, the product drops out of customers' carts on its own.
- "Automation": set a reorder point per product and switch on low-stock alerts.
- "Inventory adjustments": fix a count after breakage or a miscount. Every adjustment needs a reason.
- At the till, scanning a barcode rings the product up. No searching, no typing.
- "Warehouses", "Price lists" and "Promotions" are in the side menu when you need them.
Marketplace orders
When a customer orders, your phone rings and the order opens.
- Tap "Accept order"Check that you have every item first.
- Tap "Mark preparing"Pack the bag and put the receipt inside.
- Tap "Ready — dispatch courier"This calls a courier. For a pickup order, tap "Mark ready" instead and the customer is told to come.
- Read the PICKUP CODE to the courierIt is shown large on the order. The courier types it in their app; that proves the right bag went to the right person.
- Tap "Hand over"The order leaves your board and its earnings appear in "Earnings".
Tap "Reject order" only when you truly cannot fill it. Repeated rejections lower your ranking. An order you never answer is re-nudged and expires after 45 minutes: it is cancelled and the customer is refunded.
If an accepted delivery is still not ready after about 30 minutes, the app nudges you to speed it up; at about 45 it tells you to call the courier.
My couriers: bring your own
Have your own delivery people? Open "My couriers" and tap "Invite a courier", by phone or email. They accept on their own Ryde courier account and pass Ryde's normal checks. Then choose "Using only my own couriers" or "Using my couriers, then the platform".
The till and shifts
The "Sell" tab ("Counter sale" in the side menu) is your till for walk-in customers. A till belongs to the device, not the person.
- Tap "Open till"Type the cash you are starting with. This is your opening float.
- Ring up the itemsScan the barcode or tap the product. For something not in your catalog, tap "Open item" and type a name and price.
- Tap "Charge" and pick how they payCash, Card, Wallet, or "Charge in app", a QR link the customer pays on their own phone. Then print the receipt.
- Tap "Close till" and "Count the drawer"Type what you counted. If it does not match what the app expected, you must say why before the till closes.
- Run "Day close"One report for the whole store: every drawer, its count and its difference.
No internet? Keep selling. Sales queue on the device, send themselves when the connection is back, and are never charged twice.
Staff PINs
Employees do not need a Ryde account. Each gets a 4-digit PIN, unique in your store, and everything they do on your devices is recorded under their name.
- Open "Team & PINs" and tap "Add employee"Name and role. The role decides what they can see and do.
- Tap "Set PIN"Choose 4 digits. Two people in one store cannot share a PIN.
- They tap "Employee sign in"They pick their name and type their PIN. The 4th digit signs them in.
A cashier opens a till, sells and counts their own drawer. A manager also counts anyone's drawer and approves a void with their PIN; the owner is emailed for every void.
WhatsApp is switched on per store, after approval. Once it is on for yours, open "Integrations" and tap "Connect WhatsApp" to link your own number. Then "WhatsApp inbox" shows customer messages in the app, receipts and pay links go out by WhatsApp, and "WhatsApp broadcasts" sends a promotion to your customers. A manager needs the owner's PIN for a broadcast.
Getting paid
"Earnings" shows three lines per sale: gross, commission, net. Ryde's commission is tiered by ticket size, set by Ryde for your market, and shown on every order. The card-processing fee is paid by the customer on top of the price, never out of your share.
Card and wallet money collects in your Ryde balance. When it is available, the owner or a manager taps "Request payout"; an admin reviews it and sends it to your "Payout details" account. Cash is different: you keep it, and Ryde's share becomes a balance you owe. Deposit it at the bank and upload the receipt in "Deposit cash".
Ryde's share of till sales is due 7 days after the oldest unpaid sale. Then the till freezes: no new sales or shifts until a deposit is verified. PIN sign-in, reports and charging an open check still work. Holding too much of Ryde's cash also blocks the Open toggle.
Cancellations and refunds
- There is no cancellation fee on marketplace orders.
- Cancel or reject a paid order and the customer is told and refunded to their Ryde wallet.
- A till sale is never cancelled. It is voided, with a reason, and a manager's PIN if a cashier asks.
- A Ryde One member's free delivery is paid by Ryde, not by you.
