Ryde is operated by Ryde Technologies ("Ryde", "we", "us" or "our"). This Privacy Policy describes how we handle personal information when you use our mobile apps and website (the "Service") — whether you ride, order food or groceries, send packages, book home services, drive or deliver with Ryde, or sell as a merchant or service provider. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.
1. Who this policy covers
- Riders & clients — people who request rides, place delivery or courier orders, or book services.
- Drivers, couriers & delivery people — people who apply to and provide transportation or delivery on the platform.
- Merchants & service providers — businesses and individuals who sell products or offer services through Ryde.
Some information is collected from everyone; other information depends on how you use Ryde. Both are described below.
2. Information we collect from everyone
- Account information — your name, email address, phone number and password (or your Google/Apple sign-in identity if you use social login).
- Verification codes — one-time SMS and email codes used to confirm you control the phone number and email on your account.
- Transaction data — the rides, orders and bookings you take part in, amounts, currency, and payment method metadata. Card details are collected and processed by our payment processor (Stripe); we do not store full card numbers.
- Communications — in-app trip and order chat messages (including photos or files you share in them), support requests, and ratings or reviews you submit.
- Device & usage data — device identifiers, push-notification tokens, app version, language, and log data about how you interact with the Service.
- Email engagement — whether our emails are delivered and opened and which links you follow, so we can improve them.
3. Riders & clients
- Location — the pickup, drop-off and delivery addresses you enter (including structured drop-off details such as unit, building and entry instructions), and your device's real-time location while a trip or delivery is being arranged or is in progress, so we can match, route and show live tracking.
- Service-booking records — if a service provider requires a liability waiver, we record the exact waiver text shown to you, your typed legal name, the time, and the location, IP address and device you signed from. This signature is kept as a legal record of the agreement.
- Referral activity — if you share or use an invite code, we record the connection between the accounts for reward purposes.
4. Drivers, couriers & delivery people
- Identity verification — a photo of your government ID and a live selfie, captured either through Stripe Identity or uploaded directly in the app for review by our team. We store the verification result and, for direct uploads, the images themselves.
- Application & vehicle information — profile photo, driver's licence, insurance and vehicle registration documents, vehicle details, and your home address.
- Application vetting — we check the phone, email, identity, document and address information you provide, and store the results of those checks with your application.
- Precise location while online — when you go online or take a job, your device streams its GPS location so we can dispatch nearby requests, show your live position to the customer you are serving, and support safety features. Location collection stops when you go offline.
- Earnings & payout details — your trip and delivery earnings, balances, and the payout account you provide.
- Proof-of-completion records — for service jobs, the completion photo you capture, together with its capture time, GPS position and a cryptographic fingerprint of the image, kept as a record that the job was performed.
5. Merchants & service providers
- Business information — business name, description, address and map location, opening hours, service categories and catalog content.
- Compliance documents — business licence and tax documents you upload during onboarding.
- Payout details — the bank or payout account where we send your earnings.
Your business name, address, hours and catalog are shown publicly to customers. Personal phone numbers of merchants and providers are not published on public pages.
6. How we use information
- To provide the Service — matching riders with drivers and orders with couriers and providers, routing trips, processing orders and payments, and enabling live tracking;
- To keep the Service safe — verifying identities and documents, vetting driver applications, preventing fraud and abuse, and enforcing our Terms;
- To keep legally significant records — signed waivers and proof-of-completion photos are retained as evidence of the underlying agreement or job;
- To provide customer support and resolve disputes;
- To send you service messages (order status, safety notices, receipts) and, where you have not opted out, newsletters and marketing emails; and
- To analyze and improve the Service and develop new features.
7. How we share information
Between users on the same trip or order. Completing a request requires each side to see some of the other's information: a rider sees their driver's first name, photo, vehicle and live location; a driver or courier sees the customer's first name, pickup and drop-off details and any delivery instructions; a merchant sees the order contents and delivery details needed to prepare and hand it off.
With service providers working for us. We share information with vendors that process it on our behalf, under contract, and each receives only what it needs to perform its function:
- Stripe — payment processing (card details are entered directly with Stripe and never stored by us) and identity verification for drivers, including the government-ID photo and selfie captured during verification.
- Twilio — SMS delivery for verification codes and service messages, and phone-number checks (such as carrier and line type) used in driver vetting.
- Google — maps, geocoding, routing and address search (locations and addresses you enter or share); speech-to-text if you dictate a message; push-notification delivery through Firebase Cloud Messaging (your device's push token and notification content); and sign-in identity if you use "Sign in with Google".
- Apple — sign-in identity if you use "Sign in with Apple", and push-notification delivery on Apple devices.
- Anthropic — AI processing for our in-app assistant (your assistant messages, any images you attach, and the context needed to answer — such as your name, approximate location and recent orders) and automated reading of driver documents you upload (such as your licence and insurance card) to speed up verification.
- Resend — delivery of transactional and marketing email, including measuring whether emails are delivered, opened and clicked.
- Cloudflare — storage and serving of images and documents you upload, and bot protection on sign-in.
- Expo — delivery of app updates to the mobile app (the update check sends app version and platform information, not personal data).
- Hosting and database providers (currently Railway and MongoDB Atlas) — running the Service and storing its data.
For legal reasons. We may share information to comply with law or valid legal process, to protect the rights, property or safety of users or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
We do not sell your personal information.
8. Cookies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and measure how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect how the site works.
9. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, then for the period required to meet legal, tax, accounting, insurance and dispute-resolution obligations. Signed waivers and proof-of-completion records are retained for as long as needed as legal records of the underlying job. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.
10. Your choices & rights
- Delete your account — you can delete your account and personal data at any time from the app (Profile › Delete account) or, if you have uninstalled it, on our account deletion page. That page lists exactly what is removed and what we are required to keep.
- Access & correction — to access or correct your personal information, contact us at [email protected]. We may need to keep certain records (for example, transaction, waiver or completion records) where the law requires or permits it.
- Location — you can control location sharing through your device settings; drivers and providers stop streaming location by going offline. Disabling location may limit core features.
- Unsubscribe from emails — every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, or you can visit the unsubscribe page using the link in any of our emails.
- Manage email preferences — you can change your email language and subscription status on your email preferences page, reachable from the footer of any email we send you.
- Push notifications — you can turn off push notifications in your device settings; service-critical messages may still reach you by SMS or email.
11. Security
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and integrity checks on evidentiary records. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
13. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
14. Contact
For privacy questions or requests, contact Ryde Technologies at [email protected], or write to us at 24 Rodeo Dr., Beverly Hills, CA 90210.
